About the Hero-Hunts Shotgun Deer Hunt
First things first, let’s talk more about the annual Hunt and why it matters.
Our Shotgun Deer Hunt is open to all veterans and active-duty military members who have honorably served in the U.S. Armed Forces. They get to spend a day out in the woods, connecting with the outdoors as well as other service members.
The Hunt is important because it offers a unique outdoor experience that helps these brave men and women heal both physically and mentally.
How to Help the Hunt
It’s your support that makes it possible for us to bring more veterans and service members out on our Hunt. Your help will allow us to add more hunting opportunities throughout the year!
So, let’s take a look at how you can help our Hunt program grow.
Volunteer Guides
Some of our Hunt participants have little or no hunting experience. Others who do have experience still need a buddy out in the field. This is where our volunteer hunting guides come in!
Guides spend the entire day with one or more of our hunters, and they are invited to our post-event dinner on December 13. They join hunters in the stand, go out to lunch, swap stories, and foster connections. If we have more guides, we can bring in more hunters!

Landowners
Having a place to go is critical to the success of our annual Hunt! And expanding our options is crucial to continuing to grow this program.
Each year, several area landowners – including both individuals and organizations – donate the use of their land to our hunters for the day. In the past, we’ve had area farmers, conservation nonprofits, and more donate their land.
All landowners are also invited to join us at our post-event dinner on December 13, 2026.
This year’s Hunt will take place on Saturday, November 21. Do you have farm or game land you would be willing to donate for the day? Use this form to let us know!
Donors
Because participants do not need prior hunting experience or gear to join us, we rely on donations to provide them with all they need for our Hunt. Plus, if a hunter harvests a deer, Hero-Hunts covers all processing fees!
As you can imagine, this cost has only continued to grow as we bring more participants out for the Hunt.
